Where does my phone bill go on Schedule C?
Line 25 — Utilities
The business portion of a mobile phone bill is usually deducted on Schedule C Line 25, 'Utilities'. If a phone is used both personally and for work, deduct only the business-use percentage — for example, a driver who uses the phone roughly 60% for dispatch apps deducts 60% of the bill. A second line used exclusively for the business is fully deductible. Keep the bills and a short written basis for the percentage you claimed.
Examples
- The business share of a single mobile plan.
- A dedicated business line, deducted in full.
- Business internet at a coworking space or home office share.
Watch out for
- The first landline into a home is generally not deductible even with business use.
- Phone hardware may be a supply or a depreciable asset depending on cost.
- A consistent, explainable percentage is far safer than a round 100%.
